Installer Troubleshooting

If the VIM 3ds Max importer is not working as expected:

  • Verify that the following directory contains folders for each version of 3ds Max you are using and that these sub-folders are not empty:

    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\VIM\3dsMaxBridge
    • If this folder is empty or does not exist:

      • The VIM 3ds Max Importer installer may have been executed using an administrator account (for example by IT staff), in which case this folder and its contents has been installed for that administrator account, and not the current user account.

      • In this case, as a workaround, copy the folder from the administrator account into the user account folder %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\VIM\3dsMaxBridge

  • Verify that the following maxscript file exists for reach version of 3ds Max you are using, replacing (YEAR) with the actual version of 3ds Max:

    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\(YEAR) - 64bit\ENU\scripts\startup\LoadVim.ms"
    • If this file does not exist:

      • The VIM 3ds Max Importer installer may have been executed using an administrator account (for example by IT staff), in which case this file should be copied from the administrator account into the target user's account, changing the (YEAR) part for each version of 3ds Max used.

      • For non-english versions of 3ds Max, please copy the LoadVim.ms file into the appropriate year and language subfolder, replacing ENU with the target language code.

  • Open 3ds Max and try again.
